Orientation and Settlement Services

Ensuring that newcomers receive the right services, IRCC funded organizations across Canada provide newcomers with settlement services. To offer this, service providers will ask you to for personal information, such as your name, birth date, and immigration number on behalf of IRCC, to assist in better understanding newcomer needs, and ensure that you are receiving appropriate services. All information is kept confidential. We hope we can support you with the services and programs needed to settle and integrate into Canadian society.

Ensure that the information on your landing confirmation and your PR card is correct. If you have changed your address or lose your card, notify the call center immediately.

SIN) is a 9-digit number that you need for working in Canada or for access to government programs and benefits.
A SIN is issued to one person only and it cannot legally be used by anyone else. You are responsible for protecting your SIN. Store any document containing your SIN and personal information in a safe place—do not keep your SIN with you.
Service Canada now issues SINs in paper format (confirmation of SIN letter). Production of plastic SIN cards has ceased, however, SIN cards that are not expired and are currently in circulation can still be used.
