Education in Claresholm

Children’s Education

In Alberta, children receive free education from the ages of 5-18. They attend school daily Monday-Friday from September-June.  In the Willow Creek area, schools operate under the Livingstone Range School Division no.68 (LRSD). They have an elected school board that oversees administrators and teachers. If you need assistance registering your child in school, please contact the school directly.
 

Childcare is not free, but is readily available in Claresholm.

Willow Creek Composite High School (WCCHS)

Grades 7-12 (ages 12 to 18)
Grades 7,8,9 are Junior High; Grades 10,11, 12 are High School

Learn-a-lot play school

This program is offer to 3-4 year old children. This facility is in the same building as the Daycare (to the North of the Elementary School).

Daycare

The Claresholm Child Care Society’s Daycare supports children ages 0 months to 5 years of age.  Please refer to their website below for pricing and hours of operation information.

Kidz Zone OSC (Out of School Care)

This Out-of-School Program cares for children before school begins or after school ends for students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. It is located across the parking lot from West Meadow Elementary School so that children can be walked to and from school.

Adult Language and study options

There are several English language programs offered within Claresholm. Many are designed to help you get ready for English testing you may require for Permanent Residency or Citizenship examinations. To understand when programs operate please contact them directly.

Literacy Coordinator Programs are offered in:
CELPIP– Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program
ELL – English Language Learning and ESL – English as a Second Language
CLB – Canadian Language Benchmarks that assess your English levels in reading, writing, speaking & listening.

Lethbridge College

We are fortunate to have support from Lethbridge College services within Claresholm.

Lethbridge College also offers free language courses for adults. There are criteria to meet if you choose these LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) services. Please speak to a WCIS settlement worker to guide you to a LINC service provider for your needs.

Bow Valley College

Bow Valley College offers many campus sites north of Claresholm. You may choose from a variety of courses, both online and in-person.  Please visit their website to find out the services and courses offered.  Bow Valley College also offers support in languages classes.

Apprenticeship and Industry Training

If you have “trades” experience, you may submit documents as evidence of hours you have worked in specific trades, and how you may become qualified to pass a licensing exam. Please visit their website for information.
